Pocket Light Meter

Pocket Light Meter is an iPhone application that allows you to use phone camera as a light meter.

It was the first application that brought live view light metering to iOS devices back in 2010.

Current version brings a range of new features:

  1. The old interface is now available optionally from the settings
  2. Better low light performance
  3. Completely redeveloped settings view
  4. Switching of aperture, ISO and shutter speed scales on the fly

This version, controversially, disables conversion of the exposure value to approximation of illuminance in lux (lx) and Candle*feet. This is done because previous estimates weren't good enough. Lux and candle*feet are measures of illuminance (how much light is falling on the object) and a camera cannot measure that. Any and every camera in the world captures light reflected from objects, not the light falling on objects.

We had to remove those measurements, because people were using them incorrectly and were relying on wrong measurements when making judgements for emergency lighting installations and other stuff that we don't want to be held responsible for.

Value for Value Model

We believe that best things in life are free.

So, you can get our Pocket Light Meter application free of charge. You can use it for as long as you like, and all functions are available in a free application.

However, we all live in a real world, and we all have to pay the bills. That's why the free version has a small advertising banner on the screen. That little banner payed me whopping £1.34 yesterday. Unfortunately, I had to pay more for the electricity and broadband used to upload an updated version of the Pocket Light Meter to the App Store. And after all, I am just a mortal man, I also enjoy having a couple of pints on a sunny afternoon instead of working on a next update to this application.

This is precisely why I greatly appreciate each and every one of you who payed £2.99 (or equivalent) to buy me a pint. While it is just a cost of one pint of real ale that I enjoy the most, you are helping me tremendously to keep working on this App.

Thank you very much for your support!

It is a Value for Value Model in the end - you receive some value from this application, and I appreciate the value you are giving back.

If you haven't done so already, please, consider contributing at whatever level you can to help me continue working on this App! A range of donations is available from the settings screen of the application.
